Social media certainly plays a large role today in our lives. Some of us check Facebook, Email and Twitter more than we would like to admit. Now with Google+ and other recent additions, the list continues.
Reddit.com, founded in 2005, is another interesting social news website whose slogan is: “The front page of the internet.” Users submit content while other users then vote to decide whether the article should be moved up or down in its position on the website.
Recently, Mashable wrote about actor Nate Dern, who posted on Reddit about a commercial he recently appeared in: “Hi Reddit. After three years of auditioning, I booked my first commercial. I say ‘Huh?’ in this AT&T spot. Just wanted to share.”
Dern soon became an internet sensation. What’s interesting is that he only has one line in the commercial: “Huh?” The commercial is an AT&T ad about their 4G Blackberry Torch. When asked about his success on Reddit, Dern says, “They have a soft spot for underdogs…but this wasn’t about me. It was an inside joke and they ran with it.” The commercial now has nearly a million views on YouTube and comments are still coming in about Dern, the “Huh? guy.”
