Last week, I analyzed examples of the most successful examples of star casting on Broadway in recent years. While those productions are on the top tier, other productions don’t fare as well – with some even closing early, which is usually considered a major embarrassment for the star in question in additional to the significant financial loses faced by the producers.
As always, there is both good news and bad news in the Broadway League’s annual report of Broadway attendance and grosses.

As a native New Yorker, I’m happy that so many films and television shows have been shot here over the last dozen years or so. When I was growing up, it was far less common for movies and television shows to actually be shot in New York — even if the stories were set in New York!
The film is frustrating towards the end, yes, but as always, performances win out
But it’s clear that after a short break in acting McConaughey is determined to make up for lost time in a series of jaw-dropping performances.
