On one hand, it seems extremely early for 30-year-old actor Ryan Gosling to retire from Hollywood. On the other, he has been in front of the camera since age 12, when he starred on children’s variety show The Mickey Mouse Club, along with future headline-grabbers Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera.
Eighteen years at one job is certainly impressive, and according to a recent quote from the Crazy Stupid Love star, he may have had his fill.
“I’ve been doing this since I was 12. I don’t want to act much longer,” Gosling told British daily The Times. “I can’t do one thing my whole life. I know there are only so many characters I’ll be able to play. It will be over whenever the inspiration dries up.”
Have no fear, Gosling diehards. Even if he were to retire tomorrow, he still has The Ides of March (out Friday), The Gangster Squad (due in 2012) and The Place Beyond the Pines (scheduled for 2013) in the pipeline. After that, though, we may have seen the last of everyone’s favorite Are You Afraid of the Dark? guest star.
