The New York Times has released a clip of an anatomy of a scene from Wild, narrated by director Jean-Marc Vallée.
In this scene, neophyte hiker Cheryl Strayed (Reese Witherspoon) is hitchhiking to reach the next stage of the Pacific Coast Trail. A passing driver named Jimmy Carter (no, not that one), played by Mo McRae, mistakes her for a homeless woman and seeks to interview her. It’s a quirky scene that is a rare light moment in the drama.
Vallée describes it as the “funniest scene” in the movie and praises the script by Nick Hornby and the crew’s ability to shoot the scene (and the entire movie) by only natural light.
Wild is continuing to expand in theaters in the United States throughout December and will expand worldwide in 2015.
