American Sniper broke all kinds of box office records this past weekend, including the highest grossing opening weekend for a January release.
In this clip from The New York Times, director Clint Eastwood narrates a scene toward the end of the film when soldier Chris Kyle (Bradley Cooper) first arrives back in the U.S. after his final tour in Iraq and stops in a local bar before going straight home to see his family and receives a call from his wife, Taya (Sienna Miller).
Eastwood is well known as an actor’s director and not surprisingly does not speak much about Cooper’s performance except by saying, “I didn’t have to tell him much” and describes his “minimalist” approach to directing actors that has made him a favorite in Hollywood.
