Happy birthday, Hugh Jackman! The fan-favorite star turns 53 years old today. Though Jackman formally retired his Wolverine adamantium claws with 2017’s Logan, he recently announced that he would be reprising the role in the upcoming Deadpool 3, opposite Ryan Reynolds.
And here’s a fun fact, Jackman currently co-holds the Guinness World Record for “longest career as a live-action Marvel superhero” with co-star Patrick Stewart (which totally sounds like something someone made up on Wikipedia, but was a legit honor presented to him in 2019!)
With that in mind, today marks a great opportunity to look back on Jackman’s early origins as Wolverine as part of the casting process for 2000’s X-Men. This video shows how the relatively unknown actor won the role and how he became the MVP of the 20-year Marvel franchise.
