Florence Foster Jenkins has been released on Blu-ray and DVD today. This comedy — based on a true story — is about a New York heiress (portrayed by Meryl Streep) who pursued a career as an opera singer despite being an awful singer. The film also features Hugh Grant as her husband and manager St. Clair Bayfield and Simon Helberg as her pianist Cosmé McMoon. Florence Foster Jenkins, which was a minor hit and received strong critical praise (especially for Streep’s performance), looks at the inherent comedy — and also the heartbreaking drama — of someone with no talent trying to make it as a respected artist and the people who try to shield her from the harsh criticism.
In this conversation presented by the SAG AFTRA Foundation and moderated by Jessica Shaw of EW Morning Live, Streep, Grant, and Helberg speak about working on the film and finding their characters, all of whom were based on real-life individuals.
