It’s hard to believe that a little over ten years ago the Marvel Universe launched off a huge gamble — Iron Man, a film starring Robert Downey Jr., an actor who at the time had been recovering from personal and career troubles. Few predicted that Iron Man would go on to launch multiple multi-billion dollar franchises, and some of that credit goes to Downey’s endearing performance as Tony Stark/Iron Man.
The above video features Downey’s screen test for Iron Man. What’s interesting is it shows Downey playing the character with less humor than his on-screen performance in the film that has since become one of the character’s trademarks.
Downey appears as Iron Man again in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War, the biggest cinema superhero blockbuster ever made. Watch the above video to see how it all started.
