Happy belated 65th birthday, Mark Hamill! The man who will always be known as Luke Skywalker had never starred in a film before starring in 1977’s Star Wars, and his performance as the farm boy turned Jedi warrior would change the course of his entire career (and is a role he is still playing to this day). But before he was cast, Hamill was just another actor auditioning for a movie.
In this clip from his audition, an extremely young-looking Hamill is a little soft-spoken as he auditions opposite Harrison Ford with dialogue that was mostly cut from the script. His earnest portrayal while speaking the outlandish dialogue won him the role over actor William Katt, who nearly was cast.
