House’s lead actor Hugh Laurie says after his hit series on Fox goes off the air he will be officially calling it quits, ending his long time reign on television. With the thought that he will no longer be a “desirable commodity,” the fifty-two year old star says he has been “rather spoiled.” Adding, “I can’t imagine there will be another one quite like this.”
Instead of performing in front of the camera, Laurie, who will collect an estimated $45 million when he ends his run, says he plans to stick around in the entertainment biz, trying his hand at other jobs in the industry according to the Daily Record.
“I think I will probably be a interested by either writing or producing or directing, or some other aspect. I find the whole field of it fascinating. And I think I am extremely lucky to have had the one shot that I have had at it and wouldn’t go looking for lightning to strike twice,” he said. As scary as it must be to say goodbye to a life you have known for the last eight years, day in and day out on the same set, Laurie is able to joke about the unknown. “I hope I’m not going to drop dead, assuming that I’m unplugged. We have done 170-odd shows, that’s about 56 feature films worth. That’s a huge amount of experience, and that sort of experience gives you confidence in a way.”
